In this interview I am talking to Donato Espositio. A Brummie of Italian extraction. He arrived at school knowing only italian because he only spoke italian at home. Now Italian is the second language and he speaks pure Brummie, to the extent of using the word Brummie as his signature and brand name. He goes by the name of BostinBloke on Twitter Get Your Twitter Productivity Tools Here and also iBostin. On his web site he has had professors explaining the origins of the word Bostin which apparently goes back to Shakespearean times. Who would have expected that then?

Donato gave a demonstration of his iFart app on the iPhone. Well he told me that it was using the application, it could have been live I suppose but we had better not go into that, at least he wasn’t complaining of any smells happening at the time. No – I believe him honest, really, cross my fart, I mean heart.

Donato has met the BBC presenter of the One Show Adrian Childs because he was filmed wearing one of the famous Bostin T shirts while covering the European football championship. Adrian is obviously proud of his West Midland heritage too. Naturally the conversation skirted around the football teams of the area seeing as Adrian is  a Baggies fan, for his sins.

Donato has recently switched to the Mac and came in via seeing the one on one presentations that his son was having as part of learning to use his Mac. He also has a nephew that makes music on a Mac using Garageband. I was only a matter of time before Donato succumbed, and got down and dirty with iPhoto and the rest of iLife. He has spent many an happy hour putting in the names to the faces and is very fond of the geographic features implemented with the Geo tagging of photos from his camera. Ah! Happy days.

Not a huge podcast listener but has promised to at least to subscribe to this on in iTunes. What?? He hasn’t done that already?

I recommended the back up strategy as I use myself, Time Machine for the day to day backing up, followed by a once a week SuperDuper and the belt and braces is the important files being saved to the cloud using Mozy and DropBox. 2 GB of space available on each of those services for free. It doesn’t get much better than free does it.

Please make the trip to Donato’s sites Like Bostin Heroes to find out more about the West Midlands, Birmingham and the Black Country and buy a T shirt while you are there. Why? Because they are totally Bostin and you can’t help but smile while wearing one.

So what is Answer 20 Questions all about

My name is David Allen and I go by the name of Wizardgold online usually, sometimes perhaps Spondicious. I am a blogger and podcaster. I interview people about just about anything. I have a very successful Podcast based Blog called Mac 20 Questions. That is what started all of this. I may have to franchise this out.

This site will be the catch all 20 Questions site. All of the podcasts along with the show notes will be inserted on here.

I also expect that I will use this site to add one offs 20 Question interviews. Such as Hamster Lovers 20 Q or 20 Questions about the town where you live or just about anythng really.

Mac 20 Questions News

British Mac

Just visited the Pussycat club that is the British Mac podcast by Will Green. Not a lot of news in the period covered by the podcast so the content was thin in the Mac end of the wedge.
Nothing wrong with putting in other items to entertain though if there is a gap in the news.
Talking of News, Don McAllister thinks we are due for an announcement from Apple. I didn’t see what he thought might be coming in his posts from the Twitterverse.

Interviews

I will probably record an interview today, different in that it will be face to face with a local Mac user and a female. The lesser spotted female Mac user will be able to give me an idea if the Mac has a feminine side or not.
Dave Brown, from Australia, Paul Shadwell who lives in Switzerland, Alvaro Monoz-Aycuens from Madrid, Allison Sheridan in the USA and the MacMommy also USa have said that they will tell me their deepest darkest secrets about how they use the Mac on a daily basis.
Rob Hanson who recently was on the Nosillacast will be talking soon about how he helps people switch to the Mac from Windows.

So you can see that I have a busy time ahead over the next couple of weeks. I will need extra space on Libsyn for all of these podcasts.

Don’t forget to tell your friends about Mac 20 Questions, please re-tweet when you see that I have posted a new Podcast.

Wayne Priestly – Mac20Q-podcast 2

Yesterday I had the pleasure of interviewing Wayne, otherwise known as Legion11. You can follow him by that name on Twitter. We had a good chat based on the Mac twenty questions. A family man and it was great to hear how his young son has taken to using the Mac like a duck takes to water. Wayne  is in the process of getting the rest of the family switched over to the Mac too.

Wayne has an ongoing project at the moment to learn about AppleScript, which is interesting because I think that AppleScript is an under used resource on the Mac, so I wish Wayne luck with that. I think that is going to be a well thumbed book you have there Wayne. Truely, a Geek in Training. We mentioned Bart Bushotts and his information he has made available about using Terminal while talking about geekyness.

Again my interviewee waxed lyrical about ScreencastsOnline so I have put that in as the sponsor for the show on this podcast. I think that much of the Mac community has already signed in blood to be a user of Don’s Screencastsonline but if you haven’t done that yet then please use the link in this post to check out ScreencastsOnline.

Wayne is still on his first Mac, a MacBook Pro he bought April 2007 which came with OSX Tiger, he changed to OSX Leopard as soon as it became available and he is planning to get a portable Mac when funds allow. Wayne and his son like movie making with iStopMotion from Boinx Software. They will spend a half a day to make a very short movie, so Wallace and Grommit watch out.

bean

We talk about word processing software, including iWork, Open Office and Bean. Bean is interesting, as it is free and good. Wayne’s daughter is using Bean for her school work and is happy with what it does and how it works.

There is some chat about backing up, virus problems with Windows and some just general Windows bashing, just for fun you understand.

What a great start

david_picsmallReally pleased with the response I am getting by asking a few people I am following on Twitter if they would give me an interview. Seems Mac users love talking about their Mac’s, and why wouldn’t they? Going to keep the names under my hat for the moment but I can say that later in the week I have a Mac community superstar who will talk to me about being a Mac User.

I have other interviews lined up that will have some interesting angles, like a sailing connection and video and audio set ups to discuss.

Me, I am keen to know what applications my interviewees are going to recommend. I am wondering how you all interact with your Mac. Everyone is different so this is going to be good.

Here is a guide to the questions I plan to start with, may change as time runs on as I may think of some better ones or drop some questions depending the responses I get.
