Mac20Q Podcast 46 Cameron Banga

Play

I was really pleased to get an interview with Cameron Banga of College Kid App, which is a team of college student that have begun a project to make an iPhone Application. Seems like a brilliant idea when if you get an app that takes the world by storm off iTunes, you could make a pile of cash.

Here is a FAQ on the lads that are working together to make the application and a here is the  ‘meet the team‘ page

Part of the idea behind the project is to help other people learn how to do it by seeing what steps they have to go through to get to the finish line of having an application to sell. Here’s a list of some of our more important articles.

Of course as per usual we chatted about all things Mac and you will have to listen to the podcast to find out what was talked about. Naturally the conversatioin would gravitate towards the making of iPhone applications a little. I am really looking foward to finding out what they come up with. One of the things we mentioned is the podcast series put out by Stanford the university, it is a set of videos of the actual lessons showing how to make an iPhone Application. Some if not all of the instructors being Apple software engineers. Not bad eh. Here is the  iTunes link so you can get it and make your own iPhone application.

In the ramble I explain some of my grumpiness which was displayed in a few tweets one morning. I got out of the wrong side of the bed and was a cranky geek. GazMaz reckoned that it was appropriate I was listening to John C Dvorak while walking my dog that day.

The main topic was to say what you did with your computer today

People present were Paul Shadwell, Elaine Giles, Mike Thomas, Mark Dalton, Ross Craig, Matt Hillyer, Michael King and Ross Craig. Gazmaz called in as did Beijuu and Pat Mahon. Anyone I missed just let me know and I will add you.

Elaine mentioned Curio for coralling her thoughts, and Spam sieve. Natuarlly Devon Think and Evernote were on the list of things done during the day. Mind maps even got a mention. Curio works with Evernote and you can do drag an drop of things.

Devonthink is what Elaine uses as a Knowledge base, the long term storage. Keynote is important to Elaine but she also uses Open office and other stuff to be able to do her online presentations.

Sponsor for the Show is Go To Meeting

keepvid.com was mentioned and some of us show pictures of what our desk looks like.

Later in the chat Elaine gave us an update on the problems she has with AppleCare. Have a look at Elainegiles.co.uk or on AppleDont’Care

Mike Thomas was secretive about exactly what he was doing with his blog but he was doing something though. Mike also mentioned the ElGato TV thingy.

Mark Dalton brought up gigabit networking in the home office, and a discussion about the CAT cables ensued. Paul told us about his woking on video. Here is one of his video’s

In this one we had newcomers to the meeting in Matt Bleasby, Alice Saunders, Simon along with the stalwarts of MarkDalton, Pat Mahon, GazMaz, Legion11, Michael King, Robyn Saunders, Mark Sheppard, Stargate John, Jane73, Mike Thomas and ElaineGiles.  I should have kept a list of who was in there because I know I have forgotten someone at the moment.

The sponsor of the show is GoToMeeting

There were others who told me afterwards that they meant to be in there but missed it. Oh Well next time. The room was full this time anyway.

I mention the Out Of Office Web drama which is available for you to watch now. Please support @SplatEric in his writing endeavours by checking that out. I watched it and enjoyed the first episode.

I should say that this was a nightmare to edit with some extraneous noises in the background with some of the guests running what sounded like a washing machine and others tapping things while listening to the others. I will have to look at organising it better from the audio end of things. Still not so bad after the editing and worth listening to.

We did have a meeting last week but it was soley to test out the GoToMeeting system. This week we got together to chat about Piracy and Pirate Bay court decision in Sweden. We talk about microphones and what is a good choice for podcasting or just for use with Skype.

AppleCare is it worth it and do users of it in the UK get a bad deal sometimes, depending on which store they go to.

I’ll try and remember all the names of the people in the room. GazMaz, ElaineGiles, Paulshadwell, Legion11, Thomasmike, Patmahon, Maicki, Jane73, MichaelKing4023, Michael Smith came in a while, if I have missed anyone please tell me .

It is a bit of a long podcast but there are some parts of it are a little funny. And we slag off the music record companies and of course the movie companies because they don’t let us buy movies and TV shows here in Europe.
