David started with a MacMini after his wife saw one in the shop and said straight away that she wanted one bought one too. Good plan to take her to the Apple Store huh??
He occasionally uses Bootcamp for a game but prefers the virtual route so can drop in and out as needed.
As for the Twitter client David used Tweetdeck for a while, and then moved to Tweetie and liked it enough to pay for it
I think Dropbox is the bees knees and with 2 Gb for free you can’t go wrong.
Steve Carty as in Party but with a C. I had a great talk with Steve about how he uses his Macs and about photography, seeing as he is a photographer. He is well know in Canada and has spent time working other places such as New York. Obviously more detail in the podcast.

Steve is running a Mac with 2 GB of memory and from what he tells me about the applications he uses, he needs to get 4GB in there. Photoshop along with a good few other apps all at once means that he will notice a huge difference when he has the 4GB.

Using the social media networks such as Twitter, Flickr and the video network of Qik to get the word out there about his photographic work Steve is branding himself and his business, which is a vital thing to do if you are aiming for world domination of your industry. He will let his followers know when he is going to do a shoot through Twitter and then film some of the process and broadcast it directly through Quick. Steve also gets videos up on YouTube of course.

Also, Buy the book “POSITIVES” 140 page full colour coffee table book. produced using FSC certified ethically produced paper. printed in Canada. Download the pdf

CS3 is the preferred software for the photography and he says he may upgrade to CS4 at some point. I was surprised that he doesn’t use either Aperture or Lightroom for sorting out his images, preferring to use Bridge which comes with CS3.

I talk with Steve about the photography business and how it is changing, the effects of events such as the World Trade Center event and the effects of the Micro Stock photography model on traditional photographers. He tells me about the Speck model of selling photos to magazines. I kind of wonder how it is all going to turn out with the down turn in the advertising due to the Worldwide financial crisis. Surely anyone that can keep a business going in these trying times deserves to be successful.

Steve Carty will be amongst the winners as evidenced by his ebullience and go get ‘em attitude to making his photography business work. Personally I really enjoyed my conversation with him and I know you will too. Enjoy the podcast.

Please leave me a comment in the comment section of the post. I am really looking forward to hearing from you. I want to know what you have to say about Photography and the Mac.

Steve is running a Mac with 2 GB of memory and from what he tells me about the applications he uses, he needs to get 4GB in there. Photoshop along with a good few other apps all at once means that he will notice a huge difference when he has the 4GB.

He will let his followers know when he is going to do a shoot through Twitter and then film some of the process and broadcast it directly through Quick.
I’m talking to Elaine Giles, an IT consultant based in Manchester, UK.In her professional life Elaine runs training courses in applications for end users, develops web sites, works as a system administrator and generally undertakes a myriad of other computer related tasks.

Elaine is also Co-Chair of the North West Institute of IT Trainers and User Group Manager of the North West Adobe Users Group there are regular meetings so if you’re in the vicinity feel free to say Hi.

Elaine switched to a Mac in April 2006 after what proved to be a life changing visit to an Adobe event previewing Lightroom.

Elaine likes to use a Fujitsu ScanSnap S510M scanner to create a paperless office. She scans everything and organises it with Devonthink Office Pro which has OCR capabilities. She even uses the computer for the TV program watching, something I would like to set up and for this the hardware is EyeTV Hybrid from El Gato

BROWSERS! Thats right Elaine has an addiction. I was listening to the podcast and she claimed to have 17 web browsers, so I think there are some that have been left off this list.
- Safari
- Opera
- Firefox
- OmniWeb
- Shiira
- Camino
- iCab
- Sunrise
- Netscape Navigator
- Fluid

Microphones are really important because Elaine is a podcaster too, mostly she uses the Blue Snowball Microphone and has a Blue Snowflake to use with the MacBookPro.

Back Up software

Backing up is important for all of us and here are two of Elaines’ recommendations SuperDuper and ChronoSync

Software Pick

Scrivener I have been trying this one out also on a recommendation from Andy Inhatko last week on the Mac Break Weekly Podcast. It is a very good toolkit for writers.

iPhone Apps

OmniFocus for being organised, Evernote for collecting information and being more orgainsed, and Tweetie for telling everyone how organised you are.

PODCASTS

MacBites *of course* because she is the co host of the podcast.
PhotoshopUserTV
<itunes:summary>I’m talking to Elaine Giles, an IT consultant based in Manchester, UK.In her professional life Elaine runs training courses in applications for end users, develops web sites, works as a system administrator and generally undertakes a myriad of other computer related tasks.

Backing up is important for all of us and here are two of Elaines' recommendations SuperDuper and ChronoSync
InDesign Secrets
Instant InDesign
Layers Magazine
